When I was in 8th grade, the school put together a trip to Washington D.C and New York, and I of course went. We took a coach bus to the airport in Minneapolis and from there we flew to Washington D.C.
While we were in Washington D.C we explored A LOT. One of my favorite things we did was go to the White House. It was crazy to see how many homeless people live around there and how many people protest. I met a lady who was homeless and lived right outside the gates of the White House for 20+ years. Other things we did while we were there were tour the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Ford’s Theatre, National Air and Space Museum, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, National WWII Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial and many more attractions. I got a lot of cool pictures at some of these places but unfortunately they were on a camera, that I don’t have anymore so I can’t show you the real deal, so google images will have to suffice.
We also went to a Medieval Times dinner theater. We were served dinner and got to watch some jousting. One of the guys riding the horse threw me a rose during the show. I got to meet him after the show and take a picture with him. One of my teachers surprised me with a picture frame with the picture of us in it. He had sent this picture frame to the guy and he wrote a little message and signed it! I even still have the rose he gave me.

From Washington D.C we took a coach bus and drove to New York. I was a little nervous because obviously New York is a huge city and I’m not a fan of huge crowds, but it was fine. We did a lot of sight seeing and went to Times Square, which was really cool! We also got to watch the Good Morning America show live one morning. Another thing that I enjoyed was we went to Broadway and watched the Lion King.
As much as I thought I wasn’t going to like New York, I actually really enjoyed it. There are so many cool things to see and so much to do you could never get bored there. The one thing I didn’t enjoy as much was the weather, it was super rainy the entire time we were there so it just made for a wet trip, but we definitely tried to make the most of it.

Traveling with the school is a pretty cool thing because they set everything up and put together all the tours we are going to do, but there is such a time crunch that you can’t really enjoy it as much as you could if you were to go on your own or with your family. I wouldn’t mind visiting these places again. One thing I know for sure is that someday I want to go back to New York on New Years Eve and watch the ball drop.
